Much of life revolves in some fashion around a struggle between My Way and The Way of God or The Universe. Sometimes it seems as if we create struggle because we believe in it. Sometimes it's because we (or our human egos) think we know best. These two "struggles" may well be the same thing!
The Tao Te Ching or Book of the Way and How It Manifests in the World by Lao Tzu (who may have been a contemporary of Confucius circa 500 B.C.E., but that is not clear) is, like Qabalah , another spiritual gem that deals with the effects of polarised concepts and perceptions. "When people see some things as beautiful, other things become ugly. When people see some things as good, other things become bad" (Section 2). And "If you overesteem great men, people become powerless. If you overvalue possessions, people begin to steal" (Section 3).
Section 5: "The Tao doesn't take sides; it gives birth to both good and evil. The Master doesn't take sides; she welcomes both saints and sinners." (Stephen Mitchell's translation)
Such ideas give perspective and direction on how to navigate the Way or Path through life. They open the mind to the possibility of moving past judgement, fear and control. Think about Your Way: where it flows, where it struggles, how you deal with it, how you navigate it. We will explore!
